"Pray Hill" was more famously a feature of Wilmot's neighbor, Meadowdale.

At Meadowdale, the story is that shortly before the track opened in 1959, someone wrote "Pray" on the asphalt going in to turn 1, a blind crest into a downhill turn.  It looked hand-painted, but was a feature of the track for years.

Wilmot, about 30 miles to the north, had been open since 1953.  This photo from 1954 shows the lettering on the hill at Wilmot.  From the fact that the lettering was on the track from its earliest days, and was fairly formal looking, my guess is that it was put there by the track organizers.

Beyond that, I don't know about the origin of Pray Hill. If anyone else knows about it, I'd love to hear!
