Editor Note II : There is not too much info about this track, I was able to found maps, a description and a picture, with this few data i build "my version" of Carthage, I really was interested on tryed out this layout, this is a superb track, maybe the real one was more flat but I think the altitudes I set do not affect to much the feeling of this track, and the driving, and there is something that GPL can not simulate, the crosswinds, for what i read it was really dangerous and I suppost this crosswinds slow down cars... just maybe.. well enjoy it and if someday you go to Carthage and want to get some info, pictures, etc to build a more accurate Carthage track just contact to me ;). Carthage ------------- Racing began in Tunis in 1928, when the first Grand Prix was held on the 8.023Km Bardo Circuit. In 1931 the race was moved to the longer, triangular circuit just outside Carthage. Very flat the course complised a 3.5 Km Pit straigh and two other very fast legs, the secong of wich led back to the only slow corner on the circuit, a hairpin wich directed the cars onto the main straigh. Originally there was a large chicane just before the pits, but for the 1935 race this was moved, a action wich was not approved by the drivers, as it meant that they were now flat out all the way down this long straigh, wich was subject to very dangerous crosswinds virtually all the time. The Chicane was replaced for the 1936 Grand Prix and a second one was erected on another straigh, so ti was Sodīs law that someone should be blown off the road that year. That someone was the 1935 winner, Achille Varzi, whose Auto Union Crashed at very high speed, although miraculously without injuring the driver. Tunisia was French colony and in and in 1936 the French abandoned their own GP in favour of a sports car race, so it was hardly surprising that the same thing happened to the Tunisie GP in 1937, the last year in wich the race was held. 1933 Winner ------------ Tazio Nuvolari (Bugatti) This race was for Sports Car and not Grand Prix cars. ----------------------------- Thank to GPL Mirror Zone for hosting this track.
