Mainline is a fantasy track loosely based around the now-closed Mainline Drive-In north of Adelaide, South Australia. Best enjoyed with 65 mod or similar vintage. One or two obligatory easter eggs but I dont suggest spending too much time on the infield... its dangerous there.

No installer, I figure everyone here knows what they are doing with GEM+. If you need season.ini settings:

[EventXX]
name=Mainline Drive In
shortname=Mainline
trackShortName=Mainline
trackDirectory=mainline
flag=austrflg
month=1
day=2
numberOfLaps=80
startingGrid=4

Much of this first track was just a learning challenge, ideas like "start line is different from finish line", well, see now I know why NOT to do that! The finish is a bit of an anti-climax. No pun intended, apologies to Lotus.

There are anti-cut checkpoints in place, if they give any trouble delete/expand them from the track.ini file.

The AI needs work but is passable [get it?? its like a joke, only not funny] actually I'm surprised at how well the AI behaves, they even get through the haybale chicane sometimes, and finish the race even less sometimes.

No particular horizon is included, feel free to add your favourite. Might need to adjust the cams though.

Full accolades and huge appreciation to those mental giants that worked out the GPL file formats and built the track tools that are still quite usable today. A monumental achievement in such a short time to allow us to continue to enjoy this sim almost 30 years on.

Also huge thanks to Tobodestroyer not just for his inspiring recent tracks but for bringing the Track Creation Tutorial up to date, without which I would have never got past step 1. As well as the handy tools on his site. I can only imagine what track building must have been like years ago when it took minutes to compile and start GPL.... :o

And all praise to Papyrus and their incredible sims!

The state's parliament debated the Places of Public Entertainment Act Amendment Bill in 1954, with a number of speakers concerned with "morality".

Then Hindmarsh MLA Cyril Hutchens was most worried, believing the opening of drive-in cinemas would lead to "females attending in green French bathers, with their hair dyed red, and accessories to match...We should take all possible action to preserve the morals of our young people and I am glad we are to have legislation to deal with drive-in theatres," Mr Hutchens said.

However, then Norwood MLA Don Dunstan, who went on to become the state's premier, disagreed.

"If people are going to resort to motor cars for the purposes of immorality they are not likely to purchase theatre tickets and drive in beside other vehicles to do what they might otherwise do on some lonely country road," Mr Dunstan said at the time.
