Author		: David Wright
Email Address	: DavidWright@legendsof67.free-online.co.uk
Homepage	: http://www.mysite.freeserve.com/legendsof65
Description	: Files to make Mexico City closer to its appearence in 1965

=================================================================================

* Construction *

Base : original mip, srb and 3do files
Editor(s) used	: GPL Editor, 3DO Editor, Paint Shop Pro 4, WinMip 2, Photoshop 5
Known Bugs	: none
Build Time	: too long

* Installation *

Please unzip all files into GPL/tracks/mexico

The patch includes Goetz Poppitz's 3DO bugfix with improved telephone poles. If you have already installed this bugfix, you may be prompted to overwrite the files.

+++++ IMPORTANT +++++

This patch includes wires which do not display using OpenGL.

* Other Information *

I have based my patch on photos of the 1965 Mexican GP. Compared to 1967 there is less information available.

Most of the textures in the patch are 4-bit, and no textures exceed 256 pixels in length.

* Changes Included *

Adverts - the patch includes adverts for pits, grandstand and around the track which are more representative of 1965. The limitations of the original track mean the variety and placement of adverts around the track is not particularly authentic.

Tower and Banner - the tower has been edited to improve its authenticity. It is repositioned nearer to the track, is taller and narrower and includes the cross-track banner.

Spectators - all the original GPL tracks have insufficient spectators and Mexico City seems particularly sparse, perhaps because there is only one proper grandstand. I am not able to add spectators where there were none before, but I have replaced individual spectators with groups of 2-4 people, and also included a few soldiers (who were given the job of crowd control).

Track Textures - the original track textures had outer sections lighter than the central section. Film of the 67 GP shows most of the outer sections were darker than the central section, with parts that were the same shade. My replacement textures use darker outer sections.

Other changes - I have made the red, blue and white houses a little taller, edited their textures and put more spectators on the roof. I have always been wary of editing grass textures as the grass colour varied around the track and is subject to variations in film processing/ageing. However, I have changed the shade of the grass a little.

Changes NOT included - I have not included a new sky texture because the Papyrus original (though not inspiring) is a very good match for the sky in photos from the 1965 GP.

* Options * (or I want my old Mexico back!)

When I have driven round a circuit for hours, I find I do get attached to the original Papyrus textures, particularly tarmac and to a lesser extent grass. If you want your old tarmac back, delete the following files: -

tarmac.mip, concrete.mip, paintasp.mip and fixasp.mip

If you want your old grass back, delete the following files: -

grass.mip and horiz.3do
