Track for Grand Prix Legends by G.Spinning v1.0 May 2014 ****************************** This is my first ever produced track for GPL. It's my attempt at anything resembling reality, of the Watkins Glen, "Short Course" track, 3.907 km long, as it was ready for the 6 Hours and the Can-Am races on 24th and 25th July, 1971 (interim circuit). W.r.t. the previous layout of 3.78 km used from 1956 to 1970, it removes the "Big Bend", the way leading to it and the way approaching the "Ninety". The track was widened to 11 meters and guard-rails were erected all around. A new pit area and a new pit straight before the "Ninety” were introduced. The "Ninety” was also redesigned and moved further away from the S/F line. This remained in its old position, just before the "Esses", for the 1971 July sports car weekend, but it was moved on the new pit straight for the F1 Grand Prix raced on October, 3rd. By then also the extended section, known as the "Boot", became available to complete the "Long Course" of 5.435 km. The track layout is completely original and it's based on Google maps. All object placement, texture choices, advertising, etc. was done, when available, with reference to photographs and film captures from the epoch and especially from the 1971 6 Hours and Can-Am week-end. It is as accurate as I could manage, though some suppositions had to be taken. CREDITS ****************************** Track fixing and lp files by Ginetto Camera files by gliebzeit (NOTE: TV1 cams reproduce real life TV coverage of the Can-Am 1971 race!) Programs files by gliebzeit This track also uses original and very often modified textures and 3do files originally made by other GPL's editors for other tracks. It contains works of: Ginetto, Stefano Zampedri, Smogbike, Silence, Scott, Seegert, Stones, Rock Lobsters, Gilles Benoit, Olivier Grand. Certainly also from other editors, to whom I cannot provide credits. If someone believes I have used his work and would like a credit please let me know. Thanks to all of them. THANKS ****************************** This track would not have been possible without the assistance of Ginetto, who patiently provided technical explanations, suggestions and fixed issues. It also would not have been possible without the precious comments and nice words of encouragement especially from Border Reiver, gliebzeit, Silence, Maddog and Gaus. A big thanks to all of them for the support received, as well as to the entire Can-Am '71 mod team who gave me the motivation to do it. My thanks also to: Stefan Roess for his GPL Watkins Glen 1971 - Short Course - Promotion Movie https://www.youtube....h?v=IFfx2lkqtq0 Papyrus for Grand Prix Legends SRMZ and GPL Repository for hosting GPL forums All the creators of the editing tools and utilities which ultimately make all this possible.
