GPL Track Installer v1.00

This GPL track installer can be used to make it easier for people to install the nice track you just finished and want to release! :)

It does the following:

How to use:

  1. Edit the file "install.ini" to match your track. Instructions for the format of this file can be found in the example install.ini.
  2. Create a "readme.txt" file which will be presented in the installer.
  3. Create a bmp-file approximately 300x178 pixels large and name it "screenshot.bmp". It will be stretched to 300x178 in any case.
  4. Make sure you now have the following files available:
    maxrace.lp (track file)
    minrace.lp (track file)
    pass1.lp (track file)
    pass2.lp (track file)
    pit.lp (track file)
    race.lp (track file)
    record.ini (track file)
    track.ini (track file)
dat (track file, note that you must rename your "mytrack.dat" to "dat")
rpy (replay file, must be renamed to "rpy" - not required if no entry exists in "installer.ini")
    screenshot.bmp (used by installer)
    readme.txt (used by installer)
    install.ini (used by installer)
    trackinstall.exe (the installer)
  5. Zip it all up and you're done!

I want a single file install program!

OK, email me and I'll help you with this.

I don't have a dat file! :(

The installer requires that you have a dat file. You can do a dat-file in many ways, the way I do it is like this:

  1. Put ALL files needed for the track except the .lp and .ini-files in a directory.
  2. Enter the following command in DOS:
    dir /L /B > mytrack.pck
(replace mytrack with the name of your trackdir)
  3. Open mytrack.pck in your favourite text editor.
  4. Remove the line which says "mytrack.pck"
  5. Add these 2 lines at the top:
    mytrack.dat
    312
(replace this with the number of files in the directory)
  6. Download and extract this file (by Corey Rueckheim):
    http://www.theuspits.com/fbody/nascar/files/Trpckv10.zip
  7. Enter the following command in DOS:
    pack mytrack.pck
  8. You should now have a nice dat-file! :) (must be renamed to "dat" for use with this installer)

Note that filenames in the dat-file must be max 8+3 characters long!

There are other windows based dat packers/unpackers, for example WinDat and dooDat. They are also available from The Pits. Whichever program you use - the end result will be the same.

Please report any problems you encounter with this installer.

Good luck! :)
